Straight Answers, No Jargon The questions people actually ask before they mine
Fees, custody, hardware, solo vs pool, Bitcoin vs Whive, phone mining, legality. If it's not covered here, ask us on Telegram and we'll add it.
What is Melanin Network?
Melanin Network is a solar-first, non-custodial mining platform that converts spare energy into Bitcoin and Whive. 97% of block rewards go straight to your wallet — 3% is the platform fee, visible in every coinbase transaction.
Why 97/3? What's the catch?
The 3% platform fee pays for private mining orchestration, pool infrastructure, and ongoing development. It's visible on-chain in the coinbase transaction of every block mined — you can verify it yourself in any block explorer. No hidden fees, no withdrawal charges. Run the fee calculator →
Is Melanin custodial? Do you hold my coins?
No. Melanin is non-custodial. Your mined rewards are paid directly to your wallet address in the coinbase transaction. We never hold, store, or have access to your private keys or funds.
Solo or Collaborative — which should I pick?
Solo mining is lottery-style — you either find the whole block and keep 97% of the reward (3% platform fee), or you don't. Best for high-hashrate setups that can afford variance. ✅ Live now.
Collaborative Mining Network (CMN) splits rewards proportionally across all contributing miners — 49.5% to the block finder + 49.5% proportional share among contributors, with a 1% infrastructure fee. Steady smaller payouts. Inspired by OCEAN Pool's TIDES; Melanin's implementation is independent and built on a custom CKPool fork. 🟡 Phase 2 (in design).
Beginners with low-power devices learn most from Solo on VIBE mode; serious miners with consistent hashrate will prefer CMN once it ships.
What hardware do I need?
Anything from a phone to a full ASIC rig. Click auto-detects your hardware and picks the right tier:
- VIBE — phone, Raspberry Pi, low-power (educational)
- COLLAB — gaming PC, BitAxe USB ASIC (realistic)
- ASIC — S19, S21, MSBX with external ASIC (serious)
Can I mine on my phone?
Yes — but only while charging and under thermal safeguards. Click won't mine above ~42 °C. The Android app runs CPU-only mining. iOS is distributed via TestFlight with the same safeguards.
Phone hashrate is tiny relative to the Bitcoin network — expect educational value, not income.
What's "dual mining"?
Dual mining means mining Bitcoin (on your GPU or ASIC, SHA-256d algorithm) and Whive (on your CPU, Yespower algorithm) simultaneously on the same device. Both rewards land in your wallet.
It makes sense because the two algorithms use different silicon — your CPU is idle while the GPU mines Bitcoin anyway.
How is this different from Ocean or NiceHash?
Three things:
- AI-assisted mining orchestration — designed to improve miner outcomes without publishing internal scoring details during alpha.
- Managed access — we onboard phones, PCs, ASICs, and MSBX units responsibly while the platform is controlled.
- Solar-first positioning — hardware, energy integrations, and support workflows built around excess-energy mining.
Is Bitcoin mining legal where I live?
In most jurisdictions, yes — including the US, Canada, UK, most of the EU, Australia, Kenya, and the UAE. Some countries restrict or ban it (China, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, others).
Check local regulations before you start. Melanin operates globally but does not advise on individual compliance.
How do I actually start?
- Request Melanin Click or Network access.
- Share your platform, wallet address, miner type, and intended coin/model.
- Use the approved onboarding instructions we send after review.
We are currently in controlled alpha with managed access for approved participants.
What if my internet is spotty?
Click is designed for intermittent connectivity. It caches work locally, uses keepalive heartbeats instead of share-timeout disconnects, and resumes cleanly after outages. Mining continues through short drops; shares backlog until the connection returns.
Does Melanin store my data?
We store what's needed to operate the service: your wallet address (so we can pay you), aggregated hashrate stats, and anonymous device class. We do not collect PII beyond optional email for the waitlist or consulting requests.
