The rules for using Melanin, in plain words.

Data Bitcoin’s record, to scale
The layers are Bitcoin’s reward eras, to scale: each gold vein is half the one below it. The base layer began in 2009; the thin top layer is the era still being laid.
Who these terms are with
These terms are between you and Melanin Engineering (“Melanin”, “we”, “us”). They cover this website, your Melanin account and dashboard, the Bitcoin mining pool, the public explorer, Melanie (our help chat), the Academy and the newsletter. They apply whenever you use any of these. If you do not agree with them, please do not use Melanin.
The Privacy Policy explains what we do with your information.
Your account
You need to be at least 18 and allowed to use the machines and the electricity you connect. Your account opens when you confirm your email address with the code we send. Anyone who can read that email inbox can sign in to your account, so keep it secure.
Your wallet and your keys
You give us a Bitcoin payout address. You alone control the wallet behind it. Never send us, or type into any Melanin page, a private key or a recovery phrase; we will never ask for one. Check every address before you save it: Bitcoin payments cannot be reversed, and we cannot recover a payment sent to an address you gave us.
Your machines
You decide which machines connect to the pool. You are responsible for them: their power, cooling, safety, network and settings, the electricity they use and what it costs, and any rules that apply where they run. Our setup guides are information. We do not take control of your machines.
What Melanin charges
When the pool finds a block, 97% of the block reward goes to miners and 3% to Melanin. There are no other fees. How the miners’ part is shared in Collab and in Solo is explained in the FAQ.
No guaranteed rewards
Mining rewards are uncertain. You may earn nothing, and your electricity and equipment can cost more than you earn. We do not guarantee that the pool finds any block, any reward amount, any return, or that the services run without interruption. A share is a record of work, not a payment: check each payment in your wallet and on the Bitcoin blockchain. Figures on Melanin are information, not financial, tax or investment advice.
The public explorer
Your mining appears on the public explorer only if you choose to publish it in your dashboard. A published profile shows your wallet address and its mining figures, never your machine names. You can turn publishing off in your dashboard; that removes Melanin’s public pages for the address, but it cannot remove the Bitcoin blockchain’s own records or copies other people have made.
Using Melanin fairly
Use Melanin only within the law. Do not connect machines you are not allowed to use, try to get around limits or sign-in, overload or attack the services, falsify mining records, pretend to be someone else, or send us other people’s private information. We may limit or suspend an account to protect the services, other miners or the law.
Software and content
Melanin’s software, text and images belong to Melanin or to their owners. Open-source licences that come with any software still apply to it. You keep the rights to what you send us; you let us use it only to run the services and answer you.
Stopping and leaving
You can stop mining with Melanin at any time by changing the pool setting on each of your machines. To have your account closed, send a request through Support. Your account stays open until our team acts on it.
Limits of our responsibility
Melanin is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for lost or missed rewards, lost profits, electricity or equipment costs, or indirect losses. Nothing in these terms takes away a right that the law does not allow us to take away.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. When we do, we post the new version on this page with a new date at the top.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States of America.
